Cheadle Village: Parking the Problem

I have always supported the principle of offering a structured parking scheme which encourages people to shop locally and boosts trade in our district centres makes abundant sense.

However, the unique and individual needs of shoppers, businesses and residents must all be taken into account.

Following months of parking problems in Cheadle village – where space is at a premium - I contacted 300 residents and business in spring to ask their opinion on how parking should be managed in their area.

Many agreed with the Council’s decision to increase the charge for all day parking to £5 whilst others supported one hour’s free parking. For Cheadle Village residents, enforcement of illegal parking is important.

I wrote to the Council to share the results of my survey and they have agreed to review the situation in 6 months to see whether further measures are needed to incentivise short term parking.
