Homelessness Reduction Bill

The Communities and Local Government Select Committee of which I am a member recently conducted an inquiry into homelessness in England. Throughout this inquiry I have spoken with and received a great deal of insightful evidence from a range of local authorities, including Greater Manchester, as well as key homelessness charities such as St Mungo's Broadway and Crisis UK. The Committee has now published its report which has received a very positive response from a range of local authorities, stakeholders and charities.

Therefore, I was pleased to have been asked to co-sponsor the Homelessness Reduction Bill which is due to receive its Second Reading on 28 October and I will be attending that debate. Additionally, as a member of the House of Commons Communities and Local Government Select Committee, I have been taking part in the pre-legislative scrutiny of the Bill.

I have met with representatives from Crisis UK and St Mungo's. I was pleased that these two charities who do so much to help those who find themselves homeless are working closely with the Committee and the bill's sponsor, to write a bill that can make a real difference to the lives of rough sleepers and the homeless.
