It is good that the Government has released the COVID-19 report, however there must be further investigation into why health outcomes for those from a BAME background are worse than those with a white background. It is clear that more must be done to combat systemic racism present in the healthcare system. 

I have therefore written to the Secretary of State for Health, Matt Hancock, to ask that he look into inequalities in health outcomes and increased risks in terms of health for people with a BAME background.

I understand that this is a multi-layered issue and not just caused by health inequalities – some other reasons that have been suggested include socioeconomic factors, and more frontline workers being BAME. I put in for a question to ask the Government about how we can make more progress on systemic racism and continue to look into this.
