Lockdown and gyms

I know that the second national lockdown was be a difficult time for many of my constituents, who had to sacrifice a variety of activities that were subject to restrictions. Nobody wanted another lockdown, and we do not want any more restrictions than those that are necessary to keep us safe.

I am glad that the Government has decided to allow gyms to reopen, subject to restrictions, after the national lockdown ended on December 2nd. I know that many people rely on gyms for their regular exercise, and that going to the gym can be very beneficial for people’s physical and mental health, especially at this time of year, when the short daylight hours mean it is harder to substitute the gym with outdoor exercise.

The coronavirus is an airborne virus that thrives on social interaction, especially in indoor spaces such as gyms, and now that gyms have reopened, it is important that the rules in place are followed, so that gym-goers can exercise as safely as possible.
